Configuring your Authorize.net account

Authorize.net is a Payment Gateway that can bridge the gap between ThinkReservations and your chosen payment processor. If you do not already have an Authorize.net account, please reach out to your current credit card processor and have them create one for you.

Once your Authorize.net account is created, we recommend updating a few settings to ensure your account is live, securely saving guest profiles, and synced correctly with ThinkReservations for end-of-day reporting.

Step-by-Step Configuration

  1. Log in to your account - Navigate to the Authorize.net Merchant Login and sign in with your credentials.

  2. Take your account out of Test Mode - If your account is in TEST mode, you will see a banner or pop-up at the top of the page indicating this.

    • Click the toggle to switch the account from Test to Live mode.

    • Click the "Got It" button at the bottom of the pop-up to confirm.

    • Note: If you do not see this pop-up or banner, your account is already in Live mode.

  3. Enable the Customer Information Manager (CIM) - This feature allows ThinkReservations to securely tokenize and save credit cards for future charging.

    • Click on Home in the top-left menu.

    • Select Customer Information Manager.

    • Ensure that this feature is enabled. (If it is not currently active, you will be prompted to accept the terms of service to enable it).

  4. Adjust your Address Verification Service (AVS) Settings - To prevent valid guest transactions from being erroneously declined due to minor zip code or address typos, adjust your AVS settings. Click on Account at the top right, then click on Address Verification Service.

    • If you have Enhanced AVS: Under both General AVS and Address and ZIP Code Responses, select ALLOW for every option. Click Save at the bottom of the page. (See Image 1)

    • If you have Basic AVS: Uncheck all of the boxes so that transactions are not automatically declined. Click Save at the bottom of the page.

NOTE: If you do not have an Enhanced Address Verification Service, you will have a Basic Address Verification Service. In this case, the setting should be unchecked to look like this:

5. Match your Time Zone

  • Click on Account at the top right, then select Time Zone.

  • Set the time zone to the physical location of your property. Important: This must exactly match the time zone set on your Business Settings page in ThinkReservations.

6. Set your Transaction Cut-Off Time

  • Click on Account at the top right, then select Transaction Cut-Off Time.

  • Set the time to 11:59 p.m. This ensures that your daily batch reports from Authorize.net perfectly match your daily financial reports in ThinkReservations.

7. Generate your API Credentials to connect to ThinkReservations - To link the two systems, you need to generate security keys.

  • Click on Account at the top right, then select API Credentials & Keys.

  • Note your API Login ID.

  • Select New Transaction Key and click Submit to generate a new key (you may be asked to request a PIN to verify your identity).

  • Copy both the API Login ID and the Transaction Key, then navigate to your ThinkReservations account (Settings > Payment Processor) to paste them in and save.
