Getting Started with ThinkPayments

How to Get Started

Getting started with ThinkPayments is a guided process designed to ensure your property is set up correctly from the beginning. From a high-level, the steps look like this:

  1. Meet with our Sales Team and pick a pricing model.

  2. Add your business information to finish setting up your ThinkPayments account.

  3. Coordinate when we can switch your processor.

  4. That's it!

Throughout this process, the ThinkReservations team will communicate clearly about timing, expectations, and next steps to ensure a smooth transition.

The first step is to schedule a call with a member of the ThinkReservations Sales Team. During this conversation, the team will review your current setup, answer any questions, and help determine which pricing option is the best fit for your business. From there, you will be guided through the onboarding process and next steps to complete your setup.

What to Expect During Onboarding

Once you’ve connected with our Sales Team and confirmed you’re ready to move forward, Support will enable the ThinkPayments gateway on your profile. You’ll quickly receive an email with next steps, which will guide you to log in, access the ThinkPayments module, and complete a short business and banking form to finalize your setup.

It’s important to note that completing this form does not automatically switch your payment processor in your ThinkReservations account to ThinkPayments. You’ll have the opportunity to weigh in on the timing and provide approval before the transition.

To help guide you through this step, you can reference this short interactive demo.

Please note: As part of any payment processor transition, ThinkReservations will lose access to credit cards currently stored in your account.

This is because card data is securely stored with your current gateway and/or processor, not with ThinkReservations. ThinkReservations only stores a "token" linked to the corresponding card in your gateway or processor's vault. Those tokens cannot be transferred to a new provider. Your team will need to collect new payment details from guests moving forward. Refunds for transactions made before you switch will need to be done via check or a gift certificate. This is true whenever you change credit card processors.

When ready, ThinkReservations will update your account to use your new ThinkPayment account. From that point forward, transactions will be made using ThinkPayments.

Optionally, you can order a chip card reader (EMV device) if you process card-present transactions and would like to protect them. While waiting for that to arrive, you can still process cards.
