Multi-Factor Authentication

MFA prevents a bad actor from gaining access to your account even if they know your password. It should be used by every user.

What is MFA?

MFA, or Multi-factor Authentication, allows you to add extra security to your account by granting access to your system only after the user provides additional evidence of their identity. For ThinkReservations, this additional evidence comes in the form of a code from within an authentication app, an email, a code from a phone call, or a code sent via text.

Using an Authenticator App

Authentication apps that you can use with ThinkReservations include:

Using Text or Voice Call

You can have ThinkReservations send you a text or SMS message to your cell phone with the code when you log in. You can also have ThinkReservations call your landline phone and read you the code out loud.

Please note that each individual user has the option to set up MFA on their account. Setting up MFA for one user at a business does not protect the accounts of other users at the same business.

How do I set up MFA for my account?

To set up MFA for your user account, log in to your ThinkReservations account and click "Settings" at the top right corner of your account. Next, choose "Click here" under Multi-factor Authentication.

Clicking that link takes you to a page, as seen below, where you choose your second authentication method.

Click here to set up the Phone option (SMS or Call)

  1. Choose "Phone" in the list.

  2. Enter your mobile number in the form field. Change your country if needed.

  3. Select either Text message or Voice call.

  4. Click the Continue button.

  5. Check your phone for a text or call from (425) 250-9458, and enter the code provided on-screen.

  6. Click Continue

  7. Important: Note the recovery code if your phone is damaged and you cannot receive a text or call.

  8. Done! When you log in and need a code, you will get a call or a text with your 6-digit code, depending on the option you set up.

  9. When logging in with the code, check the box to remember this device for 30 days if it's a device you trust.

Click here to set up the Authenticator app method

  1. Download the Google Authenticator app or another supported app that handles authentication onto your smartphone.

  2. Open the mobile app, and follow the on-screen prompts to scan a new code.

  3. Use your phone to scan the QR code on your computer.

    1. If you are doing all of these steps on the phone and don't have access to a computer, use the "Trouble Scanning" and use the code shown as a Setup Code in the authenticator app.

  4. Enter the 6-digit code shown on your app into ThinkReservations and click Continue.

  5. Important: Note the recovery code in case your phone is damaged and you cannot use the authenticator app.

  6. Done! When you log in, you will use your app to enter the code shown into ThinkReservations.

  7. When logging in with the code, check the box to remember this device for 30 days if it's a device you trust.

Once you have enabled MFA on your account using one of the above methods, go back to the original ThinkReservations tab where you started and refresh the page as it says.

Once you refresh, the MFA section will change to show it is set up.

After you refresh:

Thank you for securing your account! This will significantly prevent unauthorized access and secure the guest information and business data within your account.

Logging in with MFA

Navigate to the ThinkReservations login page and enter your username and password as normal, then click Continue.

You will be taken to the page shown below which asks for your one-time code. Depending on which method you have set up to receive your code, either open your Authenticator app or check for a text message to see the current temporary code. Enter this code and click continue, as seen below in the example.

ThinkReservations:

Google Authenticator App on mobile device:

If you are logging in with a device you trust, check the box "Remember this device for 30 days" and the system will not ask for your MFA code for 30 days.

Logging in with MFA WITHOUT using your phone

If you do not have your smartphone available, you can instead click "Try another method" which will take you to the options shown below.

Email Code

Choosing Email will allow you to receive an email to the username associated with the account with a one-time code to enter. Note this option only shows up after you have successfully set up MFA.

Retrieve the code from the email you received.

The code can only be sent to the email that is used as your login for ThinkReservations.

Enter the code from the email in the box and click Continue.

Recovery Code

Choosing Recovery Code instead of Authenticator or Email will allow you to enter the master "Recovery Code" that was generated during the MFA setup process mentioned above. If you choose to use the Recovery Code, you will enter the code previously received, and will then be given a NEW master recovery code which you'll need to once again save for future reference if needed. When it is copied, check the box and click continue.

Removing MFA from your user account

If you set up MFA with one method and want to change methods, you can remove it so that it can be added. Go to Settings and click "remove" under "Multi-Factor Authentication."

As MFA is required for security, you will need to sign up again on your next login.
